Although the characters in this picture story about adoption are a cat and a dog, the story is easily applicable to humans. The softly-colored illustrations and simple text highlight many of the fears and anxieties surrounding becoming a part of a family, and the author doesn't make the process seem to be an easy transition.

A young puppy is adopted by loving cat, and the two of them build a little family day by day. MY NEW MOM & ME is a sweet, accessible story with evocative illustrations that say as much as the text does.
